Acceptance of Repentance from Alcohol Drinking

Q:

The Quran says Allah forgives all sins.

The Sunni Hadith below seems to imply that Allah only accepts repentance for drinking alcohol three times and after that repentance will not be accepted?

“Whoever drinks alcohol, Allah will not accept any prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. Then if he goes back to it, Allah will not accept any prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. Then if he goes back to it, Allah will not accept any prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. Then if he goes back to it a fourth time, Allah will not accept any prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents, Allah will not accept his repentance and He will cause him to drink from the river of al-Khabaal.” (At-Tirmidhi 1862)

My question is do the Shiahs have any similar Ahadeeth/Akhbaar and if so how do reconcile this with the belief that Allah forgives all sins?

A:

Salaam alaikum

The School of Ahlulbayt takes its principles from the holy Quran as taught
by the holy progeny of the Prophet (saws).

The Quran is quite clear in this verse:

'Indeed Allah does not forgive association with Him but forgives
everything else for whom He wills..' (4:48)

By suggesting that an individual who repeats a sin three times, even if
they repented, will not be forgiven is limiting the unlimited mercy of
God.

Therefore we do not accept such a hadith. Of course repentance should be
genuine and not just verbal, yet we cannot limit the number of times where
forgiveness is granted by The Almighty (swt).
