Punishment or Test?

Q:

Salam I've just had a divorce and my in laws have spread very bad things about me. They have sent fake papers about me to the community regarding my health. It has affected my reputation and the way people perceive me a lot. I'm really upset and saddened by this because I try to be a good person but I feel really unlucky and bad. I don't understand what I did to deserve this and I am also upset because I don't understand why Allah would let me go through this, why would Allah let people know and think horrible things about me when I have really tried to be a good person and asked for forgiveness of my sins. I feel really sad sometimes and I just want to cry because right now it's so hard and everyone is talking about me. I just want to ask is this a form of punishment because I believe if Allah wanted to he could have prevented those papers being sent to people however they were not. So do I deserve what is happening to me or did I create this myself. I am so upset also by my in laws because I can't believe they would do such a thing. I know it is out of spite that they believe if people in my local community think such things about me no body will want to marry me again and again that makes me so upset and sad because I just want to move on with my life.. I am really struggling to overcome this sadness and upset in my life and I feel very much like a failure. Did I cause my divorce and the subsequent negative comments/posts/papers about me? Is this a form of punishment? I understand that some people will say it is a test however I feel very weak in this test because I don't know how to cope with the whole community looking at me, talking about me and laughing at me when they have been fed wrong information. It's really sad because no body has heard my side of the story but I have belief in Allah that things will work out. Please advise me on what I can do. With your thanks and duas.

Alaykum Salaam

It is frustrating to have people saying untrue things behind your back and it is disgraceful and sinful behaviour on their part, which God has severely condemned in the Qur'an.

Although difficult, the best thing to do is to ignore what they day and refuse to let it affect you. People like these will find something else to talk about soon enough.

These times are certainly a trial from God to test your resolve and reliance on Him

Pray to God to open a path for you. The following verses are very encouraging to keep reciting; It is the last part of the second and the whole of the third verse of Surat Talaq:

I pray for a good and early solution for you Inshallah

With duas
